Face masks can be applied to the skin to tighten pores, pull out impurities and
reduce wrinkles or acne, depending on the skin type. Acne-prone skin can
benefit from a drying facial mask, while dry, wrinkled skin can benefit from a
moisturizing mask. Beautifying, natural face masks can be created right at home
using holistic ingredients and mixtures. Whatever the skin type, there is a
face mask that can be useful and nurturing for the skin.
Make a
hydrating mask. Using a hydrating mask on the skin can help alleviate dry skin
conditions and skin disorders, such as eczema or psoriasis. In order to create
a nourishing and cleansing skin mask, combine 1/2 cup of olive oil with 1/4 cup
of raw oats in a bowl. Mix the two together using your fingers and spread the
mixture onto moist skin. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes to allow the skin to
absorb the skin-softening oil. Wipe off the oil and oats using a wet washcloth.
Olive oil is highly emollient and hydrating to the skin, and can be used in a
mask twice per week.
Make a
skin-smoothing mask. Skin-smoothing masks remove dead skin cells and help
reveal fresh, smooth skin. Skin-smoothing masks are beneficial to acne-prone
and oily skin types. When creating a skin-smoothing mask, use ingredients that
are natural and non-abrasive that will still remove dead skin, such as sugar
and baking soda. Sugar and baking soda particulates are rounded, enabling them
to buff off dead skin without scraping the skin's delicate surface. In a bowl,
combine 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and
add in 1 teaspoon of water to make a paste. Massage the mixture onto the face
using gentle circular movements with the fingers. After two minutes, rinse the
skin clean with warm water.
